And my personal favorite, about why one should always clean one's
plate at meals:
because the prophet Mohammed found the religion of Islam in a dessert.
Prof. Whiting of Harvard University used to collect such gems, and
regale current classes with the errors of previous ones. This, of
course, led to more howlers - if a student didn't know the answer,
at least they had the chance of obtaining fame in this unorthodox
fashion.
