Nominations for the 1999-2000 Ramsay Medal are now coming in,
if not exactly overwhelming me. To remind you it's a hassle-free,
almost bureaucratic-less prize aimed at promoting those
outstanding postgraduate students around the world who have
produced the best publication arising from their research in
structural geology and/or tectonics. Given the pressures on all
students (and supervisors) to get the work done well within the
tenure of the degree, producing a published paper in addition to the
thesis is a superb achievement by any measure. The first call for
nominations has produced a small but excellent response and we
are naturally keen to maximise the competition.
Please send me four copies of the published paper (preprints not
acceptable) which will be judged by a panel of well known
structural geologists at the forthcoming annual meeing of the TSG
(Manchester, UK, 10-12 January). A brief covering note detailing
the contribution of the nominee to the published work is a helpful
supplement. The full list of nominations will be publicized at the
meeting, and the winner will receive a cast pewter medal and a
cheque.
Many thanks for your support, jonathan turner (TSG Secretary)
