Of interest--though surely somewhat dated--might be Emile Mâle's _La fin
du paganisme en Gaule et les plus anciennes, basiliques chrétiennes._ (Paris,
Flammarion [1962, c1950]) 337 p. illus., plans. 21 cm.
Seems like the theme of this string was strongly visited by scholars
(particularly French?) of Mâle's generation in the early years of this
century.
Surely their views have been modified by more recent work?
