You might look at Kurt Bauch, Das mittelalterliche Grabbild.
Figurliche Grabmaler des 11. bis 15. Jahrhunderts in Europa (Berlin
and New York, 1976). As for the Gaignieres material in the Gazette
des beaux-arts, it seems to me that there are some real dating
problems to be dealt with. It is very difficult to assess style from
17th-century drawings of medieval tombs, but some of the tombs *must*
be later than the dates that Gaignieres has recorded. I have often
been led to wonder whether some of them are posthumous or rebuilt
tomb monuments. Do let us know if you find more on this topic.
