You might try having a look at Walahfrid Strabo's Liber de cultura hortorum
(I think it's in the MGH volumes of Carolingian poets, but can't find my
reference). It describes 20 or so flowers and herbs, with their Christian
and/or mythical significance, along with their healing properties.
Reichenau has an herb garden laid out following his suggestions, planted, I
believe, in honor of the 1250th anniversary of R's foundation.
