Sorry, I don't think that it necessarily follows that the church was
"well established." Palladius was sent to the "Irish believing in Christ" in
the 430s and sank into oblivion. Bishops were sent because someone felt
there was a need, but the situation was constantly shifting as the Empire
withdrew.
