Hi Amit,
Medscape's Associate Editor, Jennifer Wider, MD, shared this reply when I sent
her your inquiry:
"this physician should contact McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. They
piloted EBM programs
and integrated them into their curriculum. Harvard University and Mount Sinai
have developed
good examples too. I can probably find a contact number for him if you want"
Please do not hesitate to contact her at the address below.

Subject: EBM in 1st and 2nd year of Med School
Dear Members,
I am actively involved in getting EBM early on in 1st and 2nd year of
medcial
school and working together with different faculty to come up with an
user
friendly way to initiate critical appraisal skills early on in medical
school ,
almost like the CASP program.
Among some of the applied example which we are thinking about is anatomy
( How
good is absence of posterior tibial artery pulses compared to absent
dorsalis
pedis pulsation in the diagnosis od PAD?), Physiology ( How good is
FEV1/FVC
compared to peak flow in detection of airway obstruction), Biochem ( Why
is TSH
a better screening test compared to T4 in the diagnosis of
hyperthyroidism?) ,
Microbiology ( How good is sputum gram stain versus no routine sputum
exam in
the treatment of community acquired pneumonia? ) , Pharmacology ( How
effective
is Aspirin alone versus ASA + Tpa in the outcome of treatment in MI ? )
.
Clinical signs ( Is elicting Homan's sign a risk factor to dislodge a
venous
clot, and cause PE ? ).
I would appreciate other ideas of members who are involved in a similar
process.
I would be intersted in knowing the process of making the marriage of
EBM into
the curriculum a very compatible companion.
Cheers.
