I don't wish to comment in detail on Karl Dockray's long response to
comments on his software (especially since I'm not familiar with it).
However, he makes many good points about the comparison between
command-based (in particular old DOS) and GUI-based (in particular
Windows/Mac) software.
I'd just like to add two quickies:
1. A couple of my favourite tools are the DOS versions of Cytel's
"ST" (calculates probability distributions), and "StatXact"
(for exact probabilities for categorical data). I get the answer
with these in less time than it would take to reach for the mouse.
I run them in a "DOS emulator" window on a Linux system.
2. In the immortal words of my friend Charles Curran:
"I can touch-type, but I can't touch-mouse."
