To Doctor Badri, Stross, Lomas et al
Comments and viewpoints were invited about a
quote indicating that "research findings hold no
special value to most practicing physicians.
In response, I am a country radiologist in the
West of Texas. My reporting software carries
lists of citations, quotes and advisories taken
from journal reading and what we call "continuing
medical education" in the US.
A study of my results showed that my personal
diagnostic errors were cut 50% when my machine
retrieved old patient history, previous test results
and appropriate citations listing various test values
and ranges of normal. *
I depend on this kind of research and evidence-
based medicine. The upshot was a free compliment
from a rural general practitioner who wrote "Thank
you...your reports read just like a text book".
