Dear all
List owner for evidence-based-health calling...
In general, I'd prefer it if people didn't send attachments to the list.
They take up lots of room and crash people's email in-trays, and it may
not be something the individual recipient has an interest in. They may
also contain the dreaded macro viruses.
Can I suggest some guidelines?
1) use the mailbase web site if possible:
There is the facility to place files on the mailbase server which people
can download via the web. The URL is
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/evidence-based-health/, and click on Read
List Related files and web pages. This gives you a list of what's
available.
I'd suggest that members wanting to distribute a file to the list send it
to me ([log in to unmask]) and I will place it
on the server. The member can then announce its availability and people
can retrieve it if they want to.
2) send it directly to people requesting it:
Some users do not have good access to the web, and we should include the
option of users requesting a copy from the member directly by email
attachment.
3) use only interchangeable file formats:
Not everyone uses MS Office, and especially not the same version: RTF
documents don't contain macros, so can't transmit these viruses and can
be read by a variety of applications and platforms. So, if you have a
word processor file, save it as rich text format (RTF) or text-only (txt).
What do people think?
Cheers
Douglas
