Hello Laurence,
I'm not a guide dog user myself, although I do have
three dogs, or rather they allow me to live with them! Ihave however
checked out your enquiry with a couple of friends who are guide dog users..
They report that this can be a bit of a problem, particularly when using taxis
or private rented mini cabs. Black cabs are legally bound to carry guide dogs,
although they are usually welcoming anyway. Notwithstanding, they also report that on most
occasions, they are totally ignored while the dog gets all the fuss and
attention. This in itself is also a problem, a problem that I admit to contributing
to. I caused chaos at the eye hospital once by fussing a beautiful hairy
creature that I just found irresistable....the owner fell over me and the nurse
tripped over both of us!.....I was in the dog house.
However, the point you raise is a serious one and I hope my side issue has not
distracted from it.
Let's hope common sense can prevail with this and that both blind and those
with allergies can coexist along side our four legged friends.
Joseph.
