I construe disability in this way, so I will be recommending dp
phraseology. I should point out that there certainly isn't a consensus
around this at the Roeher. Furthermore, a couple of us (of the
nominalist persuasion) have alot of problems with the use of the phrase
person "with an impairment" as well as PWD language.

But the difference isn't small or insignificant in casual speech or
otherwise. It's the difference between construing disability as a
property or quality of individuals (something individuals
have/possess/embody) or as relational (something done to indivduals/a
way of acting upon them/etc.), for oppression is a relational term. The
latter demands a systemic social response; the former does not. We
should also, I would argue, conceive people as gendered, racialized, and
sexed (etc) rather than individuals who HAVE a gender, race or sex.
(I'm with Judith Butler on this one.) These are the effects of
signifying forms of power. Do you think it makes sense to say that
gender or disability (for instance) are socially constructed/generated
and to also say that they are decontextualized properties of
individuals? (I guess this is a rhetorical question, since you have
already noted that PWD is inconsistent with a social model which
represents disability as the outcome of oppression.)
It occurs to me now that maybe I've completely sidestepped your
questions. If I have, perhaps it would help me if you were to rephrase
them. In addition, it occurs to me that I tend to conceive disability
as a form of oppression rather than (simply) the outcome of
oppression.
