I have been on this list for a few months now, but this is my first
posting.
I am currently doing my Masters thesis, looking mainly at
the writings of Otloh of St Emmeram. I have become particularly
interested in questions surrounding Otloh's reforming interests, and
his positioning as a monk with many connections to other Gorzian
reform houses. I was reading Phyllis Jestice's article on 'Gorian
Reform and the Light under the Bushel' and was interested to see that
one of the final paragraphs makes a direct link between Otloh's views
on ascetics-in-the-world, and the ideals of Gregorian Reform. Does
anyone have any pointers on the link between German reform
monasticism, and the rise of Gregorian ideals? As Jestice notes,
this link is indeed often missed.
I would be very interested to develop some discussion around this
area,
Hannah Williams.
