Hi everyone. Do you know any graduates who might be interested in this?
St Andrews University School of Geography & Geosciences is offering Ph.D's
in a wide range of topics.
Funding includes fees, a subsistence scholarship and fieldwork.
Dr Grahame Oliver is offering the following topics in Crustal Geodynamics:
1. Oceanic versus island arcs in the Lesser Himalaya, Kathmandu, Nepal:
mapping, structure, (isotope) chemistry, and age dating.
2. Crustal geodynamics in the Damara Orogenic Belt, Namibia: the change
from marginal thrust to internal constrictional regimes.
3. Is the Outer Hebrides Proterozoic Lagnavat Belt an ophiolite/suture
zone? Mapping, structure, (isotope) chemistry and age dating.
4. The Ordovician granites of the Grampian terrane: discrimination between
early to syn-peak metamorphic granite magma and later (decompression?)
magma: mapping, structure, (isotope) chemistry, age dating.
5. The age of the Caledonian orogeny in Scotland: detrital mineral
provenance studies in the Dalradian, Highland Border, Midland Valley and
Southern Uplands (stratigraphy, chemistry, isotopes, age dating).
Those graduates with the equivalent of a good Honours degree in Geoscience
should apply now. Starting date: October 1999.
