Clinical Excellence 2000: promoting quality in mental health and learning
disability services

Clinical governance draws together many of the quality initiatives
undertaken in trusts across the UK. Similarly, initiatives undertaken at
the Royal College of Psychiatrists Research Unit (clinical audit, guideline
development and clinical effectiveness initiatives to name a few) has been
drawn together in this new, wider context. This years national quality and
effectiveness conference, Clinical Excellence 2000: promoting quality in
mental health and learning disability services will embrace this broadened
agenda and look at how mental health services can achieve clinical
excellence. The event focuses on components of clinical governance in
mental health services, how the culture in mental health services is
changing and real examples of initiatives that have improved mental health
and learning disability services.

Clinical Effectiveness in Mental Health Services for Older People

The Royal College of Psychiatrists Research Unit is organising its first
old age conference next May in collaboration with key interest groups.
This one day, multi-professional event will give an overview of the current
developments relating to clinical effectiveness in the mental health
services for older people - including the then-published National Service
Framework for Older People - and will offer practical advice to assist
those working in this area to become more effective. Real examples of
clinical effectiveness will also be featured.
