Seeking interest in the evidence about effectiveness of CCTV on crime
reduction...
There has been a local campaign in Bradford raising the issue of
civil liberties and Closed Circuit TV. Such is the media and
establishment opinion that CCTV must be effective, that public opinion
has followed. The concern against Big Brother watching has taken
second place to the assurance that Big Felon might be caught on
camera.
The campaign points out that there is no evidence locally or
nationally to show that CCTV reduces crime or reduces fear of crime,
and that the statistical analysis provided by CCTV supporters is
flawed.
The 1-in-12 Club in Bradford, which has been the main critic locally
of CCTV plans, along with the Trades Council, is suggesting a one-day
conference here in Bradford where the evidence on CCTV's
effectiveness can be treated seriously by being given higher profile.
Has anyone receiving this email been involved in reviewing that
evidence? Or have an interest in this subject? I'd like to put you
in touch with the 1-in-12 Club on an informal basis, so please
respond with your contact phone and address.
