Thanks, I'll stick with McDonald's...no demon or anything else
(including nutritional value ;-) could survive what they do to that
stuff!
Please excuse the bandwidth while I introduce myself. I hope not to
come off as a pest.
I'm a reenactor and my persona is a Chaucer-esque nun. While I like my
research *researched* thank you, I'm also in it for all the laffs I can
get. (It'd be great to be able to amuse everyone with funny stories...
like the book in the Apocrypha (Barnabas, I think) where Jesus summons
the devil at someone's request...and the rest of the story had me on the
floor)
In "real life" I have a pretty generic BA in English lit, with the usual
semester courses on Chaucer, Milton, early English lit, etc. I hope to
gain some insight and reasonable solid background on nuns and the
transition from Irish to Roman church, Kildare, and the early Irish
church in general. I augment my fairly small income by "selling fabric
to support my habit" at reenactment events.
Some questions; if the answers on this stuff aren't of interest to the
list, could someone(s) please write me offlist?
Where (typical Big City/Suburban area) would a wannabee look for this
Motif Index and other sources for fun stories?
Also, does anyone have any ideas for reliable ways to check out the
rumors that nuns did Evilpaganthings behind the walls of those convents?
And the existence (or not) of independent nuns who (like the story of
the 4th-c. St. Brighid) just sort of went out and "set up shop" on their
own?
Thank you very much for any help, and for that lettuce story and source,
Heather Law
