The further I get in editing Alexander of Hales' postilla on the
fourth gospel, the more I realise that it is not possible to talk
about this postilla without also considering the glossa ordinaria on
John. Alexander is naturally commenting not just on the Vulgate text
bnut also on the glosses which his students presumably also had before
them. I have located works by Christopher de Hamel, Margaret Gibson,
and Ann Matter on the glossa ordinaria in general but, although I have
found some secondary material on the gloss on other books of the
Bible, I can't seem to locate any secondary literature specifically on
the gloss on John. I've used the Revue d'histoire ecclesiastique
bibliography sections as well as some on-line aids, but I wanted to
check in this (these) fora too. Can any one suggest any books or
articles specifically on the gloss to John?
Thanks very much!
