The Highways Agency has just published a leaflet containing
a map showing plans for a new road which will help to
restore the historical landscape surrounding Stonehenge.
The leaflet is titled:
A303 Stonehenge (including the Winterbourne Stoke Bypass):
Preferred Route Annoucement June 1999.
It is available from the Public Relations Department,
Highways Agency, St Christopher House, Southwark St, London
SW1 0DE, Tel 0171 921 4443.
I rang and asked for two copies. They came a couple of days
later.
The map uses the 1:25000 Explorer sheet as a base, but alas
the additional information is not very clearly added.
Doubtless done by a graphic designer rather than a
cartographer.
The scheme is a snip at 130 million pounds.
