Project Manager - Present-day stress field analysis/ modelling.
The Geophysical Institute at Karlsruhe University (Germany) seeks an
experienced Ph.D. scientist for research leading to the evaluation
and interpretation of the present-day stress field in western
Europe. The candidate will be involved in borehole breakout analysis
and, particularly, 2D/3D finite element studies focusing on the
stress field in the surroundings of faults. The successful candidate
will lead a recently established team consisting of Ph.D. students
and technicians. Interaction with other groups at the Institute (e.g.
World Stress Map team, seismology group) is desired. The research
will be performed in close collaboration with national and
international partners. The position requires demonstrated
experiences in finite element modelling, a strong background in rock
and fracture mechanics, and interest to advise Diploma and Ph.D.
students. The position is available from July 1999 till March 2002 at
an annual salary of BAT Ib (equivalent $48.000).
