Dear all, the last message was garbled during transmission so here it is
again.
The University of Bristol is host to the EU Large-Scale Geochemical
Facility (Est. 1st April 1998) which is funded by the European
Commission Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) programme.
The Facility contains a number of modern analytical instruments
for geochemical studies. These include electron probe microanalysis,
ICP-MS, ICP-AES, TIMS, Mssbauer (Fe3+/Fe2+), Fourier Transform
Infra-Red spectrometry (CO2 & H2O), LECO (bulk C & S), Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance and Scanning Electron Microscopy with qualitative EDS.
Analysis of surfaces can be performed using Auger Electron, Secondary
Ion Mass and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectrometers. Four well-equipped
experimental geochemistry laboratories allow Users to carry
out investigations that simulate a wide variety of geological
conditions.
The aim of the Large Scale Facility programme is to provide access to
modern analytical equipment for scientists who do not otherwise have
free use of such facilities in their own country.
All travel and subsistence expenses are provided to applicants from EU
and Associated countries (Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein and Norway)
(except for UK researchers). Visits are usually expected to last
between 1 and 4 weeks. Applicants are strongly advised to discuss their
analytical requirements with Facility staff prior to sending in their
applications. This is to establish project feasibility and likely
instrument time.
The final application deadline under the TMR programme is the 15th
September 1999. Application forms can be downloaded from:
http://eugf.gly.bris.ac.uk or are available from the address below.
