Non possediamo opere di Bernardo di Chartres, ma conosciamo la tradizione
indiretta delle sue opere.
Giovanni di Salisbury nella sua opera " Metalogicus " ( III, 4 ) parla,
riferendosi a Bernardo di Chartres, dei moderni rispetto agli antichi come "
nani sulle spalle dei giganti ".
