Hello,
Yet another racist and xenophobic(If I may dare to use a Greek word)
hate-mail. It is obvious that the author has very strong feelings. I would
like to take this opportunity to display how stupid indeed can racism be.
I am Kurdish and from Turkey. How would I fit in with the below analysis?
It has been awful to watch many non-Kurdish people to tell us how we
should run our lives. I have some separatist Kurdish friends yes. But
there are over 2 million Kurds in Istanbul that would not at all wish to
relocate to the underdeveloped eastern part of Turkey. I think the
international politics supporting Kurdish separatist movement has done so
to the expense of creating a division within a previously harmonious
society. I lived all my life in Istanbul. I never once felt that I was
differently treated to my Turkish peers and class mates, until the
European governments started supporting separatist Kurds. There have been
many military camps for separatist Kurds located in northern Greece and
southern Greek Cyprus. Well, why am I worried about separatist
Kurdish movement being a Kurd myself. The answer is quite pragmatic and
simple. The areas in Turkey where Kurdish population reside cannot be
independent of the Turkish state. They are far removed from agricultural
and industrial areas of Turkey. Therefore such separation would not be
practical and economically viable. However, by supporting this separatist
movement, European governments encouraged the growth of a nationalist
movement in Turkey. With the growth of the Turkish nationalism very
important cultural gains for Kurdish population, such as the
Kurdish institute were closed. I find people who claim that Ocalan was the
leader of the Kurds naive in that there are many political and ideological
divisions between Kurdish people. By supporting a certain brand of
Kurdishness foreigners are in fact disturbing the existence balance and
harmony in the country.
Well, I better go now. But before I would like to reiterate my belief that
making broad generalisations about cultures, nationalities, races, and
various social cleavages might be an easy thing to do but not necessarily
a right or ethical (Oops, another Greek word not to be used by a bloody
foreigner).
