Hi, Sergio
as a student I worked in Dundee and the protocol for total knee
replacements differed between consultants but from what I can remember
the first day post op the patient was only asked to do static quads
and to get up and mobilise with a cricket splint on. From the second
day on the patient could start all the other exercises including
knee flexion which generally was an active exercise using a re-ed
board. As soon as the patient had a good straight leg raise then the
cricket splint could be removed.
I now work at Wigan and the protocols are very different. The
patients are not allowed to bend their knee for seven days but do
start exercises such as static quads and straight leg raises.
I hope this helpful
Aileen
