Sorry for cross posting.
Is there any manipulative PT out thete who wants to work in Japan?
If you want,I will help you settig up with a job and I want to learn
orthopaedic manual therapy
from you practically.
But for a foreign PT working in Japan there will be some complications.
(1)Problems for foreign manipulative PT in Japan
a)PT in Japan cannot have a private practice owing to the regulation by law.
But if you work under the title of Manipulative Therapist it is possible.
On the other hand chiropractors in Japan can do practice without
any public licence.Of course they are not reimbursed by national health
insurace.Generally physicians regard them fake.
b)As orthopedic manipulative physical therapy is unknown in Japan,it will be
difficult to collect patients at first.
I have a plan that I will collect patients by internet.
There is a homepage where back or neck pain patients can exchange their
information.
I am going to collect patients there at first.
I found a surprising situation there.A person said that only a spirit
could save
a pregnant woman who has a low back pain. This was said by her husband.
There is no remedy for such a case in Japan.I think western orthopedic PT
could treat her.
c)Most of Japanese people cannot speak English. You need a traslator.
I will be able to do so.
d)A foreign PT is not allowed to do his original job unless he can speak
and read
Japanese and licensed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
So a foreign manipulative PT must not call himself a PT but a manipulative
therapist when he want to do his original job. This is a same situation
for a chiropractor.
e)In the beginning you can earn a living with teaching English at a
conversation school,which
will be a main component of your income and you can do a private practice as
side business.
You can make US$ 20~40 / hour teaching English.
f)It takes more than 100 thousand yen (US$850)per a month to rent a busy place.
I must collect contibutions from sponsors who can understand my aim that
I will propagate western scientific manual therapy and help many back and
neck pain patients in Japan.
(2)Merit of practice in Japan
a)You may be the first person that starts private practice of western
orthopedic manual therapy. If you can make many good results, you will be able
to make much money. The Japanese is apt to imitate other person in all lives,
so many patients will rush to yours to hear your reputation.
But it will take long years,at least 5 to 10 years.
b)Japan is one of the safest countries in the world.
Most of the Japanese have never heard of sound of gun in their town.
c)Japanese food is good for fat people.Do you know 'sushi'?
Japan has many original culture.--Zen,Karezansui(Japanese traditional garden)
(3)The future of orthopedic manupulative PT in Japan
Japan is an island country and has been a closed country for a long time.
I think English conversation ability of the Japanese is in lower level
in Asia for that reason, though Japanese educational level is in the highest
rank in the world.(Japanese industrial goods are exellent.)
So Japanese industries have been protected by language wall for a long time.
Japanese computer companies--FUJITU,NEC--could make a big profit until
foreign ones--Apple etc.--succeeded in producing a Japanese software.
I think this is same in medicine including physical therapy.
If the Japanese truly realize a efficiency of western manual physiotherapy,
it may bring revolution in Japnese medical society.
But it will take at least 5 to 10 years after we start movement.
I will attend WCPT Congress at Yokohama,Japan on 26th May to 27th May.
If you want to talk with me more about this subject,I will meet you there
with pleasure.
Or contact me directly by email.
Best regards,
Hiro Wood
