Well, I was partly right.
Jerome's pet is a *sort* of kittycat:

And:

Well, it's not Durer's "Temptation," but, according to the hexperts,
"Adam and Eve."
But the cat *is* there, stealing the show from the incompetent humans.
(The mouse being toast.)
Though the *real* story is in the mountain goat(?) in the background, upper
right.
How the devil (as it were) did he get *up* there on that craig??
And *why* would he *go* up there, in the first place?
And, goodness, *how*, on earth, is he to get himself down??
I note also, that, whilst Moma Eve's fig leaf is apparently from the same tree
as the fruit--arguably some sort of bad apple (one of those malus
malii?)--Pappie Adam (with his pomme-shaped hand, poor sucker) gets *his* from
a pomagranet-like arbor (with serrated leaves, no less), favorite fruit of
parrots and suchlike hangerson.
What meanst these leaves?
Sorry I didn't do my homework and locate the images for the previous post.
Best from here,
Christopher
