Duby's works on marriage are prolematical. First neither the Knight nor 2
Models is a systematic study. Both are impressionistic and are based on
scanty and anecdotal evidence. Duby also manifests inadequate training in
canon law and theology to engage in the level of generalization that he
does. Finally, his notion of 2 models is quaintly old-fashioned and
inadequately supported by the evidence he presents. Stick w/Brundage and
Sheehan, Duby's work here is terrible.
