Vacant Ph.D. Position in Structural Geology,
VMSG Research School, Faculty of Earth Sciences,
University of Utrecht, Netherlands
A four year Ph.D. studentship is available, starting May 1st 1999. The
title of the research topic is
"Terrane Accretion in the Early - Mid Archean of the Pilbara Craton, NW
Australia - When, why and implications for early earth tectonics"
The project involves an integration of field, microstructural, metamorphic
and geochronological studies of major shears that divide the Early - Mid
Archean granite-greenstone terrains of the Pilbara Craton into a number of
domains. The hypothesis to be tested is: Do these major shears have a
kinematic and thermotectonic evolution which, when compared to the
intra-domainal areas, is consistent with their having been terrane
boundaries.
The project builds upon an ongoing research project based at Utrecht
University but also involving Dr. J. Wijbrans from the Free University in
Amsterdam.
In the dutch system, Ph.D. studentships are fully funded.
