I ask the list's indulgence.
Carolyn Muessig's wonderful & constantly thought-provoking posts have provoked
another question:
>* Eystein Erlandsson, archbishop of Nidaros (Trondheim)
(1188)
- second archbishop of this see, he wrote a *vita* of St
Olaf, and oversaw the first royal coronation in Norwegian
history (that of the eight-year-old king Magnus)>
namely:
what's the etiology/etimology of "eystein/einstein"?
could it be something like the "seer stones" which one encounters every now
and again, perhaps most recently in the (bizarre?) Morman accounts of folks
who used such stones (in the bottom of their hats) the 19th century to "see"
the future?
just an idle question from someone with way too much time on his hands.
thanks to the learned list in advance.
best to all from here,
christopher
