Dr. Karczewska,
Earlier this year I asked a similar question of the list. I received
much help on sources for medieval wedding liturgy from James Brundage,
George Ferzoco, Tom Izbicki, Paul Schaffner, Michael Hynes, Karen Saupe,
and Sherry Reames. If you haven't already looked at it, I highly
recommend Brundage's own _Law, Sex, and Christian Society in Medieval
Europe_. If your student also has questions on wedding liturgy, the
main sources are: Korbinian Ritzer, _Formen, Riten und religioses
Brauchtum der Eheschliessung in den christlichen Kirchen des ersten
Jahrtausends_ (Munster : Aschendorff, 1981, c1962) (first edition has
been translated as _Le mariage dans les eglises chretiennes du Ier au
XIe siecle_ [Paris: Editions du Cerf, 1970]) and Jean-Baptiste Molin
and Protais Mutembe, _Le rituel du mariage en France du XIIe au XVIe
siecle_ (Paris: Beauchaise, 1973). On my own I discovered Kenneth
Stevenson's _Nuptial Blessing_ and Frances and Joseph Gies _Marriage
and the Family in the Middle Ages_. Stevenson seems to have heavily
depended on Ritzer and Molin and Mutembe, and primarily concerns himself
with the nuptial blessing prayer. The Gieses have written a series of
books in which they summarize current scholarship on medieval topics
for a popular audience, but do no scholarship of their own. I am
dubious of Duby, and did not consult his _the Knight, the Lady, and the
Priest_.
