Dear François,
Your query reminds me of a quotation from Henry of Grosmont's 'Livre
des Seyntz Medicins' which I remember vaguely reading in translation
which spoke of the sensitivity of Christ's tender body in the face of
such a bitter passion. As I recall, again rather uncertainly, Brigitte of
Sweden makes some rather similar comments about the particular
sensitivity and tenderness of Christ's body. I wonder whether this
was a way of speaking about Christ's holiness and purity in
terminology drawn from conventional descriptions of the physical
qualities of small children and youthful, innnocent and virginal
figures. I am not sure whether Henry of Grosmont was also intending
to suggest that Christ had some kind of special presentiment or imaginative
power.
I will try to find the quotation, but in the meantime, other list
members may have more direct observations to make.
Sorry for the vagueness,
With Best Wishes
Miriam Gill
