Greetings!
I've been a member of this list since fall '97, having introduced
myself sometime last winter, with a question on birds in hagiography.
In my first PhD-year at Central European University (Budapest) I am
scrutinizing the model sermons of the Preacher from St. Lamprecht. I
would be happy if anyone of you, dear list-members, would have any
suggestions on this matter, as the source seems to have been researched
amazingly little. Am I wrong? then it's even better.
Another question, perhaps, more urgent for the moment. Are there any
instances in the Church Fathers particularly discussing the food served
on the Last Supper (there should be)? Or, perhaps, any kind of special
opinions or prescriptions as to what kind of food has to be depicted in
the images of the Last Supper?
The reduction of the Passover feast to symbolic wine and bread (earlier
also fish) in accordance with the eucharistic meaning of the scene is
comprehensible. Yet, there are many curious variations. E.g., grilled
pigs appear on Christ's table.
Eagerly waiting for your hints,
Elena Lemeneva
