Dear All
if one looks at the reports against heresy in the eleventh and twelfth
centuries (the easiest way to look is in W.L. Wakefield and A.P. Evans,
eds, Heresies of the High Middle Ages, 1992) one finds that where writers
note heretics abhorring or condemning marriage, the authors place this tenet
within the context of the other sacraments, such as baptism. From a (very!)
cursory flick through, i haven't noticed any early writer specifically
stating that they consider marriage to be a 'sacrament' - but then
neither do they specify that baptism or confession are sacraments.
cheers
