Some time ago the list was notified of the publication of 'Turning
Evidence into Everyday Practice', a King's Fund report on the PACE
programme (Promoting Action on Clinical Effectiveness). The programme
involved 16 demonstration projects on getting evidence into practice in
English health authorities; it was run by the King's Fund and funded by
the Department of Health.
The Department of Health commissioned an independent qualitative
evaluation of the programme from Prof John Gabbay, Southampton, and Dr
Sue Dopson, Templeton College, Oxford. The final report of the
evaluation is now available, and examines the role of a number of
factors affecting implementation of evidence in the local projects,
including:
different interpretations of evidence and experience
the role of clinical opinion leaders
the wider organisational/managerial culture
project management style
We plan to develop a number of articles arising from the work, but in
the meantime if anybody would like a copy of the executive summary of
the report (free of charge) please contact me directly on the e-mail
address below. Please do not reply via the list.
