Dear colleagues,
The Tectonics Group of the Spanish Geological Society organizes
every year a two-days field trip focused on the structure and tectonics of
a sector of Spain. This year, the meeting will take place in a sector of
the Variscain Iberian Belt called the Narcea Antiform. This sector is
located in the Foreland-Hinterland transition and a marked contrast between
foreland-fold and thrust belt deformation and ductile deformation can be
observed (ej. JSG , 18(10), p. 1217). Different topics will be discussed
during the field trip:
- Low Grade shear zones developed in sedomentary, volcanic and
igneous rocks.
- Deformation sequence of the Narcea Antiform.
- Strain partitioning: brittle vs. ductile mechanisms.
- Paleogeographic evolution of the Narcea Antiform: From Cadomian
to Variscan.
The meeting will be held in Cangas del Narcea (Asturias, NW Spain)
on 20th (Receprion), 21st and 22 nd (Excursion) September 1999.
