Dear List Members,
I am researching aspects of the Medieval Revival in 19th-century France. I
would be interested to hear from those of you who have run across information
regarding any sort of renewed interest or study of Medieval Mystery Plays
(particularly concerning the Last Judgment) in 19th-century France. I assume
scholarly work on the subject grew during that century, but I also wonder
about manifestations of this interest in popular culture. For instance, were
there any performances done based on what were believed to be medieval texts
or traditions? Did any sort of imagery supposedly depicting medieval mystery
plays circulate in 19th-century France? Any suggestions for primary or
secondary sources would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
