Hi
Today I received a call for papers from the new quarterly Journal of
Bioeconomics (International Society for Bioeconomics)?
The blurb opens by extolling the 'crucial insights' of Malthus, Darwin
and Wallace 'in their discoveries of the idea of natural selection'.
The rationale for the journal is then explained as follows:
'There was once a considerable communication between
economists and biologists, but over time, the two fields grew
apart. We now observe that they seem to be converging again'.
'Though the subjects are different, there are many
similarities and much overlap between disciplines. Both
biology and economics deal with competition, be it in the form
of the struggle for existence or of competition for scarce
resources used for individually preferred ends'.
'Evolutionary game theory' is particularly cited as a demonstration of
analogous structures in the two fields and papers are invited from,
amongst others, sociobiologists on 'various bioeconomic topics',
including 'ethnicity and gender roles'.
There is no specific mention of disability issues but I just can't
help that creepy feeling every time sociobiology and ethnicity/gender
are mentioned in the same paragraph. Perhaps someone out there would
like to write a paper for them?
Best Wishes
