Hello Ken
EFFECTS is a TLTP3-funded project aiming to develop a national framework for programmes of staff development in embedding C&IT into learning and teaching.
The focus is on active learning through curriculum development projects rather than skills acquisition.
Programmes are currently under development at five consortium institutions and will be delivered to staff from this summer onwards.
At last year's ALT conference we presented a draft framework including seven generic learning outcomes, designed to scaffold the design of courses for academic staff.
At the time the outcomes were criticised because it was felt (a) that it would be difficult for non-academic staff involved in the learning process to meet them, and (b) in many cases it would be difficult for academic staff to meet them without the active support of non-academic learning professionals.
We therefore revised these generic learning outcomes to take account of the fact that curriculum development is increasingly a team activity, with academics and learning professionals working together.
We hope that the new generic learning outcomes will help in the development of programmes which encourage co-mentoring of academic and related staff, and which enable non-academic staff to work towards a professional qualification in learning and teaching.
Our programme at the University of Plymouth begins in July and will include at least two participants who are non-traditional academic staff.
More about the EFFECTs framework can be found at http://sh.plym.ac.uk/eds/effects.
Course information from the Plymouth Embedding Learning Technologies course is not yet available (the link here is somewhat out of date) but will be there soon.
We are running two national workshops in June at UMIST (8 June) and UNL (18 June) for institutions interested in adopting or adapting the EFFECTS framework. See http://sh.plym.ac.uk/eds/effects/new.html.
If you would like more details please contact me directly.
All the best
Helen
