Many thanks to Geoffrey Chew for allowing my inquiry. And many thanks as
well to Professor Freeland for the website address which I have glanced at
and will return to since it appears to have many interesting leads. And I
DO look forward to the new journal.
I realize musicology-all is not a general discussion list and so will not
press further here. But I will sign off with a puzzle posed by Robert
Nozick near the end of _Socratic Puzzles_. In the form he gives it, one
might call it "God's Conundrum," but it has other forms:
"Here I'd been carrying on this long relationship with these things
without having the faintest idea of what they were. I didn't even know,
for crying out loud, whether I'd been receiving prayers or just gazing at
prayer behavior."
When we listen to music,
are we experiencing it
or just processing musical behaviors?
Another time perhaps,
Steve
