Vacancy: RILM Coordinator (0.5 position)
Applications are invited for the post of Coordinator for the newly
consolidated UK office of the Repertoire International de Litterature
Musicale. The half-time post is designed for a researcher in musicology of
postdoctoral or equivalent standing with interests in bibliography and
also appropriate IT experience. This development has been made possible by
a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Board; the post is for 12
months in the first instance, although sources for continuation funding
will be sought in the near future.
RILM was established in 1966 under the joint sponsorship of the
International Musicological Society (IMS) and the International
Association of Music Libraries (IAML). It is a bibliographic and
abstracting service covering all significant writings on music and related
spheres whether in monographs, collected essays (including conference
proceedings), theses, editions or journals. Abstracts are published
quarterly (CD-ROM) or annually (printed) in English, with monthly up-dates
on-line and cumulative indices published in print every five years.
Organization is by way of national offices liaising with the International
RILM Center at the City University of New York Graduate School. The result
is an indispensable tool for all scholars in the field of musicology.
The post-holder will be expected to monitor and list all UK publications
in musicology; to liaise with UK authors, publishers and the British
Library; to edit (and in some cases, create) abstracts and related
material according to RILM guidelines; to coordinate with the
International RILM Centre in submitting listings and abstracts in
electronic formats; and to design and maintain a UK-RILM web-site
displaying bibliographical information in searchable formats.
The post will be held at and supported by the Music Department of Royal
Holloway, University of London; the Coordinator will also be expected to
enter the Department's research community. Salary is set at 17570 pounds
plus 2134 pounds London Allowance, both pro rata. It is hoped to make an
appointment for 1 August 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter.
