6th International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition
August 5-–10, 2000

Keele University, United Kingdom

CALL FOR PAPERS – DEADLINE IST DECEMBER 1999

Dear Colleague,

We invite you to join us at this biennial conference (previously held in
Kyoto, Los Angeles, Liège, Montreal, and Seoul) which is the world
conference of the music psychology community. It is jointly sponsored by
the Society for Music Perception and Cognition (USA), the Japanese Society
for Music Perception and Cognition (JSMPC), and the European Society for
the Cognitive Sciences of Music (ESCOM). ESCOM is hosting ICMPC6 at Keele
University, which also functions as the 4th Triennial ESCOM conference.

Keele is situated in the Midlands of England, close to Manchester and
Birmingham International Airports, and less than 2 hours from London by
train. The University is in scenic parkland outside the city of
Stoke-On-Trent, home to the UK'’s finest pottery and china manufactures.

The conference is organised from the Unit for the Study of Musical Skill
and Development in the Department of Psychology at Keele University. We
invite you to participate in this important event by submitting a paper,
poster, demonstration or symposia in accordance with the enclosed
guidelines.

We look forward to welcoming you to Keele.

Yours Sincerely,

Professor John Sloboda (Conference Chair)
Dr Susan O'’Neill (Associate Chair)

Spoken papers will be 30 minutes duration, comprising 20 minutes for
presentation, and 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

Poster and demonstration papers will have equal status to spoken papers,

are those requiring special equipment with which readers must interact.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the necessary equipment is
available, and their submission should include a full description of the
equipment and facilities needed.

Symposia will consist of a set of integrated spoken papers related to a
theme. The total time allowed for symposia will be either 2 or 4 hours,
each 2 hour block usually consisting of four 25-minute papers and a
discussion (although variations from this pattern will be considered on
their merit). Symposia convenors should collect together abstracts for
each paper which must be in the required format outlined below and should
include an abstract for the entire symposium, stating the rationale for
the topic, the aims of the symposia, and the set of speakers proposed. A
discussant may be proposed, and/or a suggestion for an invited keynote
speaker associated with the symposium.
