Swiss Federal Institut of Technology at Lausanne, Switzerland (EPFL)
The Laboratoire de Chimie Physique Moléculaire (Prof. T.R. Rizzo) is currently
offering a PhD position in the field of
"Reactions of Highly Vibrationally Excited Molecules with Solid Surfaces"
The project studies the reactive scattering and chemisorption of laser excited
molecules with chemically significant vibrational energies on solid surfaces.
The project aims to make use selective laser excitation in a molecular beam to
control the deposition of molecular species on solid surfaces. Specifically,
we will study the role of vibrational energy in the activation of
chemisorption reactions. Potential applications of this technique may lead for
example to the controlled growth of isotopically pure semiconductor films.
Candidates with a degree in physics or chemistry and with experience in
surface science and/or laser spectroscopy who motivated to do challenging
experimental work are encouraged to apply.
