I am currently working on the Director's Reports of the Scottish Australian
Mining Company from 1859 - 1920 and have found them an invaluable resource
on copper, gold and iron mining. In particular the reports from Mine
Captains and others provide a detailed account of the trials and
tribulations of mining in Australia - lack of rain to provide water power
for the crushers, too much rain making haulage of wood to the semelters an
impossibility, market fluctuations and lodes becoming unprofitable.
Unfortunately too few have survived.
