Maternal Choice - Capacity and Consent in Childbirth - A One-Day
National Conference at The University of Central Lancashire, Preston
Thursday 9th December 1999
Organised by:
The Department of Midwifery Studies and The Department of Social
Studies, University of Central Lancashire
and
The Approved Social Work Interest Group (ASWIG)
Conference Aims and Objectives
Individual responsibility and choice are key themes for both midwives
and social workers. In recent times, though, there have been incidences
where a woman+s competence to choose birth options has been challenged
by health and social care professionals.
The focus of this conference centres around enhancing awareness of the
socio-cultural and legal constraints upon mothers. As a joint initiative
it is envisaged that the conference will facilitate an understanding of
the respective roles, functions and duties of Midwives, Approved Social
Workers and key others.
This conference will be of particular interest to Midwives, Social
Workers, Sociologists, Paediatric and Neonatal Nurses and Medical
Doctors.
Conference Fee: 70.00 plus VAT (82.25) including documentation, lunch
and refreshments.
