The Natural History Museum currently has a vacancy for a Temporary
Cataloguer within the Museum’s Department of Library and Information Services.
You will mainly be working on an established project to complete the
conversion of the library’s catalogue but will assist in the cataloguing of
new stock also. You will be working with three other staff under the
direction of the Bibliographic Services Librarian. The appointment will be
until 31 March 2000 in the first instance with the possibility of an
extension for a further 12 months.
You must be accurate in your work and able to plan and organise your
workload. You must have experience of cataloguing in accordance with AACR2
and MARC. The Library uses the SIRSI Unicorn Library Management System and
familiarity with this is desirable but not essential. You will be qualified
to degree level and hold a qualification in librarianship or information
management. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to analyse and solve
problems are essential. Knowledge of foreign languages would also be useful.
Salary is £15,000 per annum and there is a leave entitlement of 25 days.
