Negotiating rights clearance to reproduce existing works in new media
products is a major issue for producers, researchers and multi-media
developers.
This course will be led by Richard McCracken (Head of Rights) and Madeleine
Gilbart of the Open University, which has over 25 years experience in
obtaining rights for broadcast, computer-based media and books. Richard and
Madeleine are joint authors of <Buying and Clearing Rights>, published by
Routledge.
Aimed at producers, researchers, academic authors and courseware developers,
the day will fully explore the practicalities of rights clearance:
What is copyright?
How do rights differ from copyright?
Broadcast and video rights
Computer based systems: software licensing, network distribution
Multi-media
Administering the clearance process
Workshop session.
There will be opportunities for participants to discuss their own rights
clearance issues; past, present and future.
