Thanks to all those who contributed to the recent ILL meeting. As
promised I have collated the enhancement suggestions raised during the
meeting and was about to circulate a preliminary list for comments.
If you have seen a recent circular from the British Library you may know
that after 35 years(!) they are about to change their charging
arrangements. There will be no more prepaid forms or vouchers but instead
customers are expected to open a billing or a deposit account, and
services will be priced in monetary terms and not in units.
These changes will obviously affect the enhancements that we will be
prioritising and submitting to Innovative. Many of the points raised will
still be relevant but the whole area of voucher handling will need some
review. It is not clear at this stage how requests to other libraries and
refund arrangements will work.
The change will remove the need to quote a new voucher number when renewing
an item and multiple voucher prompts (or adding more vouchers) will no
longer be necessary. We can incorporate departmental codes into request
numbers and use monthly statements from the British Library for charging
departments. All this must be good news for Innovative! :-)
I hope to send a preliminary list for comments to all those who have
expressed interest. Please let me know if you are not on the EIUG ILL
mailing list (i.e. have not received some long email messages about past
enhancement requests from me last month) and would like to receive a
preliminary list since it will not be posted to this discussion list.
