Service Manager
Information and Training Manager
The Resource Discovery Network (RDN) is a new national service that
enriches learning, research, and cultural engagement by facilitating
subject-based access to high-quality Internet resources. The Resource
Discovery Network Centre (RDNC) is responsible for developing and
co-ordinating the Network and is located jointly at King's College London
and Bath University. The RDNC seeks two dynamic graduates to play key
roles in developing this challenging and exciting new service. It is
intended to locate both individuals at King's College London although
other arrangements may be considered. Both positions are available until
31 July 2002
Service Manager: Responsible for co-ordinating the development and
delivery of the RDNC, the ideal candidate will have some relevant
experience in an operational networked information service preferably in
the education, heritage or library sectors. S/he will be well organised,
have excellent oral and written communications skills, and demonstrate
ability to build consensus in a distributed organisation. S/he will also
either have or demonstrate potential for: negotiating partnerships and/or
commercial contracts; managing service budgets and service personnel; a
developed understanding of trends in the management and use of networked
information. An appointment will be made on the Academic Related Grade 4
Salary Scale, currently 29,585 - 34,705 per annum (inclusive of 2,134 per

Information and Training Manager: Responsible for co-ordinating the
Network's information, outreach, and training programme, the ideal
candidate will have some relevant experience developing and supporting the
use of networked information in the education, heritage or library
sectors. S/he will possess excellent presentation, research, and writing
skills and have experience developing and delivering relevant
informational and instructional materials. She will also either have or
demonstrate potential for: developing and implementing marketing and
training programmes; developing and maintaining effective strategic
partnerships; managing production budgets; and a developed understanding
of how networked information is used for educational and cultural
purposes. An appointment will be made on the Academic Related Grade 2
Salary Scale, currently 21,049- 26,613 per annum (inclusive of 2,134 per
annum London Allowance). Job reference: E2/QC/31/99
Competence in web authoring and in the normal range of office and network
software will be essential for both posts, as will an ability to integrate
into a small, friendly, and energetic team working closely to tight
deadlines.
