In today's Melbourne Age(10/6/99), was the following Reuters report from
Phnom Penh, dated Wednesday (9/6/99). But despite the headline, it is only
talks that are happening, not an actual signed agreement.

Vietnam, Cambodia end border disputes
Vietnam's Communist Party secretary-general, Mr Le Kha Phieu was given a
red-carpet welcome on his arrival in Cambodia today for a 24-hour visit
aimed at ironing out nagging disagreements between neighbours.

After a recent visit to Vietnam, Prince Ranariddh said the two countries
had agreed to resolve all outstanding disagreements by the end of the year,
including border disputes and illegal immigration from Vietnam to Cambodia.

Cambodia has border disagreements with all three of its neighbours - Laos,
Thailand and Vietnam. Many Cambodians are deeply concerned about the
possible loss of territory, particularly to their historic enemy, Vietnam.
In addition to disputes along their land border, Cambodia and Vietnam also
disagree over their maritime boundary in the Gulf of Thailand.
Cambodia objects to an agreement signed by Vietnam and Thailand in 1997 to
divide offshore oil and gas exploration blocks in the gulf, saying it too
must be consulted.
