Lecturer (Assistant Professor equivalent in USA) Position Available In
Structural Controls of Mineralization
Economic Geology Research Unit, School of Earth Sciences, James Cook
University, Townsville, Australia
A 3 year contract position, with potential to become tenured, is available
in the above field, for commencement as early as possible in 2000.
Expressions of interest are sought from people ideally with one or more
years postdoctoral experience, but an outstanding applicant who has just
completed a PhD would be very appointable. Salary for Lecturer B commences
at AUS $47905; the cost of living in Townsville is low and the climate is
tropical. Applications should include a comprehensive CV and names and
email addresses of 3 referees. Applicants must have a demonstrated or
potential ability to attract research funding.
Our School has 11 full time academic staff, 12 postdoctoral and research
fellows, over 50 PhD students, and healthy courses with minerals
industry-oriented programs at Honours and Masters level. The increasing
demand for postgraduate research in economic geology, particularly in
deformed rocks and structural control of mineralization, means we have a
new opportunity to employ a geoscientist with skills in mineralisation and
deformation. There is some scope for applications from "conventional"
structural geologists, or from other outstanding geologists with a
demonstrated ability to apply their skills to the studies of controls of
mineralisation during deformation. Presently, we have 3 tenured faculty and
5 research fellows in economic geology in the School, as well as several
other staff involved heavily in economic geology projects. The School has a
very strong track record in structural controls of mineralization, as well
as in microstructural, metamorphic and geochemical/fluid aspects of
mineralization. The research facilities and publication output in
International Journals at the school are amongst the very best in
Australia. Full details of our School's research and training profile
can be gathered from our website at http://www.es.jcu.edu.au/index.shtml
